Question:

Hello Folks I was just wondering if anyone taking zoloft is experiencing feelings of "un-reality" (I just made up a new word.) I have been on a low dosage for approx. 4 months and while it helps my anxiety,on the other hand -I have feelings that things aren’t real any more. Is this crazy or what?

Response:

Funny that you say that…. When I was driving home from A.C. the other day, I felt like I was in a video game or something… It was kind of cool though….4 – weeks on wellbutrin..

Response:

I had those "clouded-fogged-brained" feelings with Zoloft.  They never went away for me.  I felt like a wired and tired zombie the whole time I was on the med.  I think I stayed on it for, possibly, 3-4 months (can’t remember).  Some people only experience this during initiation of the medication while getting up to a therapeutic dose.  You may begin to feel better after a while. YMMV, as always, if it makes you feel terrible, consult your doctor. Mel

Response:

Hi Dan, I had the same feelings while I was on Zoloft. It was like watching a dream. I know Zoloft works for a lot of people but it wasn’t right for me. As they say though YMMV. Let your doc. know how you’re feeling. Best wishes, Linda

Response:

You may be experiencing dissociation – a sense of removal from current reality, or a separating out yourself from your experience of current reality.  Although I’ve not taken any SSRIs myself, I have known others who have experienced a very heightened experience of dissociation on Paxil and Prozac.  I suspect Zoloft can cause similar problems.  My partner actually went off SSRIs completely because the problems with feelings of dissociation became intolerable. This seems to be either an under-reported side effect of SSRIs, or else a side effect that some doctors don’t take very seriously.  If they experienced it themselves, they’d start taking it seriously! I’d definitely talk to your doctor about this – you may very well want to consider other options.  But whatever you decide to do, you definitely aren’t alone in this problem or crazy!!!!

Response:

I was on the wrong dosage of Zoloft for over a year.  It might be that you need to be at 100mg.  It seems like that is where the medication really kicks in. Also, don’t mix the drug with alcohol.  It doesn’t work if you even take one little drink.  One drink will actually erase total effectiveness.  You must not drink with this drug.  I found out after using the drug for one year without getting better!!  Good luck, Zoloft saved my life!!!
