Buspar: Not all that bad..
Question:
: It’s interesting how some meds work well for some people and not others. I : took Buspar for two months for anxiety/depression and noticed absolutely no : effect, not even side effects… nada, zip. I noticed no effect either. I took it with prozac, and when I went into hypomania they stopped the buspar and cut down the prozac. But I don’t remember the buspar having any effect at all on me. Hello James I’ve been taking buspar for 2 weeks without much of a difference except maybe feeling more anxiety. How long did it take for you to know it really was working and can you describe how you felt that made you sure it was working? Take care, Chris
..for me, it prevented 1) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -weight gain from most a.d’s 2) the anxiety that can lead to depression 3)helped me become a much more calm, content yet strong person. Well I had a similar response for the anxiety. The Buspar pretty much minimized it. However the depression was a kick in the rear, so I had to go to an ssri. Now the anxiety is worse and the depression is a little better. go figure. d – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hiya all: Just wanted to make a comment about Buspar. I have taken it in the past, and may take it in the near future, for a combonation of anxiety/depression. The critical factor I found, was dosing. 5mg 3x a day seemed to really help, without promoting any side-effects. I noticed a number of things that seemed to beat out the SSRI/Benzo combination. 1) Overall anxiety reduced WITHOUT drowsiness. 2) Possibly because of reduced anxiety, my sex drive INCREASED. 3) No weight gain. 4) VERY good sleep. 5) Good, clear thinking, without the "depersonalization" and rollar coaster emotion rides that SSRI’s have brought me too. Now, this is MY experience, and obviously, ymmv. But, an important point is, for myself anyway, not to take more then 5mg at a time. It seems more then this, is when side effects start to appear. Even though it may be more pricey then trycyclics, it is still about the same cost of the newer SSRI’s. Anyways, I wouldn’t rule it out for anybody suffering from both anxiety and depression. I have dropped my SSRI’s in favour of this drug, mainley because it REDUCES anxiety, and causes very little side effects. For me, this drug works best BY ITSELF. I think when you mix it with other a.d’s and/or benzo’s, thats when side effects start. And this is the reason I think that this drug is HIGHLY underprescribed. Anyways, hope this helps some…for me, it prevented 1) weight gain from most a.d’s 2) the anxiety that can lead to depression 3)helped me become a much more calm, content yet strong person.
